I got a random blonde hair baby doll as my first doll. When I was about 4 I got Bitty Baby, and then at 6 I got Samantha. It's only been AG dolls since.
But that's actually historically accurate! There's a story in the Raggedy Andy book about how Raggedy Andy got orange juice all over her face. I think Santa finally had to remove the stain with something that worked a bit like Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser...

Oh, poor little random! You don't need a brand name to be a pretty doll and a good friend.
Love your photo of Kirsten looking out the window.
^ Yep! I can't for the life of me remember her name, but I know I took her everywhere with me. Hmm, now I want to go dig her out of my basement!
Thanks.
My first doll was a baby doll that was similar to Bitty. I'm signing off to play with my real Bitsy now.
Well my first 18 in doll was a Our Generation doll, Summer. My mom made me throw her away when I got my second doll, Laura Ashley, because she was filthy. Laura Ashley was of course made by the Laura Ashley company. After her I finally decided I was ready for only a few presents that Christmas and asked for Samantha. From then on I was AG crazy!
I do not remember my first doll, but one of my very favorite dolls was Chatty Cathy that I got in the early 60's. My sister & I each got Chatty Cathy's for Christmas with extra outfits, coats, etc... We LOVED those dolls!!
Another of my favorite dolls was an 8" Betsy McCall, she was so sweet! I was very careful with my dolls, but these older Betsy McCalls were pretty delicate. Her head seams separated and her leg kept falling off. I still loved her to pieces, she just had to wear tights all the time after that poor little thing.
My sister & I also played Barbies. We had ponytail Barbie, bubble cut Barbie, Midge, Skippers, and Francie dolls. We had the old cardboard Barbie Dream Houses w/ the cardboard furniture, and two seater convertible cars for our dolls. We had so much fun!!

When my DD was very little, we got her a new Chatty Cathy. Both kids still like to make Cathy talk, and she joins the AG dolls for school now and again.
I don't remember my very first doll but I remember that every year for my birthday I always asked for a new monkey to replace my favorite one that got thrown away. My favorite kind was the rubber faced ones like Zippy the Chimp. I carried my monkey around everywhere I went and wore him out so bad that my Mom made me throw it out. Sad thing is they stopped making them. I recently hunted one down on ebay. Poor thing gets no love at all. I can't bond with him since he's not MY monkey.
I had a rubber baby doll I named Janie, then my next doll was Tiny Tears with molded head. I believe it was 12 or 13 inches. We're talking early 50s.
When I was 40 I found out I was adopted and my birth-mother's name was Jane. I thought that was unique.
